Students have the option to gain certifications or other professional experiences that enhance their status as a professional. One of the most recognized certifications for individuals working in public parks and recreation to earn is the Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP). Students earning their degree in Recreation Administration at the University of Mississippi are qualified to take the CPRP certification test their last semester enrolled in classes and anytime after graduation.  The Harvey Faust Scholarship provides up to 10 scholarships per year for qualified students to take this examination,  To augment this capstone certification other relevant certifications including Aquatic Facility OperatorCertified Playground Safety Inspector, and Wilderness First Responder are recognized as valuable credentials that enhance professionalism and ultimately, marketability.

Another source of RACEs that are encouraged and can be earned by students is through professional association affiliation. Membership and participation in professional associations such as the Mississippi Recreation and Park Association and the National Recreation and Park Association and conferences offered by the MRPA and NRPA are integral to becoming a recreation professional. Most professional associations and conferences offer students discounted rates, special workshops, and many opportunities to network with practitioners, professionals and other students. In fact, involvement facilitates career preparation as students learn about certification exams and network with professionals who may be helpful in their search for an internship or a job.  Students enrolled in RA 400- Professional Development are required to attend a conference, earn RACEs, meet with practitioner professionals, and become members of the association sponsoring the conference.
